Fortunately, gave it an ultrasonic cleaning before playing and even with the ugliest of the vinyl (surface marks and pitting) it plays flawlessly. This is a must-own album for any Aeromsith fan that gives a great insight to where they were headed. Gave it a good clean which didn't help much. It was a bit of a noisy record but not too overwhelming. I just took it as part of a listening experience since I treated this like it was a bootleg. Still a must-have for any diehard Aerosmith fan. I was quite impressed with the package design. Probably among the best I've seen on an Aerosmith record. It does have a small warp that i often get on new records but it is not big enough to affect the playback. Having streamed this many times before the record arrived I can say i am amazed in the different in the fidelity. It sounds incredible considering the source. Big old surface scratch running across the entire side A, light scuffs on both sides. Gave it a wet clean, and it plays fine despite the light scratch and scuffs. Using an AT VM540ML cart/stylus. Grades A on both sides with a Puffin Phono DSP. Sounds cool. Had no idea Steven Tyler was a flautist. Pops, clicks, scuffs on a sealed record. They not only dropped the ball on this pressing, they fumbled it into the gutter drain. Had I known on Record Store Day about the quality, I would have hard passed. It's in my collection now for better or worse. Reply1 Helpful ges6169961's avatar ges6169961 Apr 18, 2022 referencing 1971 (The Road Starts Hear) (LP, Record Store Day) B0034036-01 The issues people are having with the audio quality is due to some sort of residue that was on the vinyl, presumably from whatever finishing material is on the inner sleeve, which also has some sort of textured feel to it. I assume it's to evoke the feeling of the envelopes these old demo tapes used to be held in. This also is what creates the surface scuffs on the vinyl (which shouldn't have any bearing on the audio quality, it just doesn't look good). If you give the album a good and thorough cleaning as soon as you get it (which should be done anyway to all new albums before you listen to them) then you should be good. It should also be worth noting that the original source audio was a 50 year old 2-track tape recording, so it's not going to be studio quality anyway, and IMO is quite good and well mastered for what they had to work with. Album should also be moved to an anti-static sleeve as well after you open it to prevent further scuffing. Sealed record with visible scuffs, pitting on side one and a 10mm scratch. More crackles and pops than a bowl of Rice Bubbles. And the added bonus of being pressed off centre.
